While in Atlanta I was able to experience so much! My first day in, I was invited to the Grow House movie event hosted by Lil Duval. This was my “Atlanta I have arrived” moment and first night out as a “celebrity” I was able to network with guest and  enjoy my first night in town.

Working as a junior publicist for the fashion show really exposed me to the glamorous and not so glamorous side of PR. One of my tasks prior to arriving in Atlanta was finding different media outlets and bloggers and inviting them to the show. Which was one of my main focuses of the day; making sure all outlets arrived on time, distributing media badges and making sure everyone played their part. It was so great to finally meet all the people I had been communicating with via email and to see them in action.

We often times see events like this on television and see only the glamorous side of it and don’t think of the hard work behind it. Of course it is nice to be able to see the celebrities on the red carpet and being able to interact with the guest but it is soooo much more work that goes on behind the scenes. When you work events like this you don’t get to just show up, be cute and take pictures (as I thought). There are countless hours put in, and working as a publicist your main focus is your client.

You’re there for run throughs, making sure the venue is set up, putting vendors in place and more. You are constantly moving before, during and after the event. As much as I ripped and ran you would’ve thought I was one of models on the runway. From escorting some of the celebrity guest to their seats, becoming a professional water girl, wearing heels for 5+ hours and working the door with a 10 page guest list in the middle of Hot-Lanta.  I was humbled fast and my time as a celebrity died down quick. By the end of the night blisters had formed, curls had fell and my makeup was off.

Though it is a lot of work, the success of your client and the success of the event makes up for all of the hard work. Being able to experience this event and meet all of these wonderful people was such a great experience. I truly got a glimpse of what’s in store for me and look forward to being a future publicist!
