We all remember the time Maxine Waters went viral after a video circulated of her clapping back and reclaiming her time. Defined as by the Urban Dictionary “When you don’t have time to be wasting with ignorant, foolish or stupid people.” Or “when people are on your time but wasting it” Even almost a year later after the video circulated I am still reminded to this day by Auntie Maxine that I need to reclaim my time!

As a full time college student, a full time worker, an intern, a growing entrepreneur, a sister, a daughter, a friend, and an “anything you need I got you” kind of girl. I don’t really have a lot of time to do much of anything. With a hectic schedule and long days I often find myself barely having time to breathe yet alone spend time with myself.

I have 24 hours in my day every day, I spend 8 hours at work each day, 4 hours of my time in class and 3-4 hours at my internship during the week which leaves me with about 8 hours to work on my brand, create blog post, go to events, do homework, create new ideas, execute ideas, do stuff for my friends and family, eat, catch up on my latest shows, work out, run errands, relax, have a social life, participate in extracurricular activities and most importantly SLEEP.

* Sigh * I know, a lot to do in such little time.

I’m reminded of the saying “Everyone has the same 24 hours, it is what you do with your time that matters most.” which sounds cliché but is so true. What we do with our time is completely up to us. I have so many ideas and so many things I want to accomplish but I often times find myself using the excuse “I don’t have enough time.” I look at people that are successful and think how do they have time to accomplish all of their goals and be successful and how am I spending my time?

Though I only have 24 hours in a day and it already seems jam packed and full, its all about how I spend every hour, minute, and second of my day. Prioritizing, evaluating and literally dissecting every second and eliminating distractions whether it be the things you partake in, the people you hang around or the space you put yourself in, you have to cut out distractions! If it is not helping you reach your goal it is a distraction. Be selective with who and what you allow on your time, learn how to say NO sometimes and get back your time.

DO NOT ALLOW PEOPLE OR FOOLISH THINGS TO WASTE YOUR TIME.

Not only do you have to reclaim your time to get stuff done but reclaim your time for yourself. Often times we get caught up in doing things for everyone else we forget to take care of ourselves. Your health and mental well-being is so important, make sure you take time to relax and just breathe.

Sometimes realistically you just cannot get everything done but the goal is always to strive to get as much accomplished as possible. It is so important to create time to be productive time, time to have fun, time for your dreams and time to just breathe. Time will only continue to move fast from here so you really just have to saddle up and learn how to take the bull by the horns. Your time is valuable so IF IT IS NOT HELPING YOU GROW LET IT GO.

Be intentional with your time, prioritize your time and reclaim it your time. Thank you to Auntie Maxine for reminding me to reclaim my time!

Until Next Time ,
